Tascam 234 Cassette Deck

This Tascam 234 is a mono cassette deck with Dolby B and DBX noise reduction, it was first sold by Tascam in 1983 and discontinued a year later.

The main features of the Tascam 234 cassette deck are: 2 heads, digital tape counter with 4 digits, tape type selection and capable of handling normal and chrome tapes, single capstan transport.

Typical front loading cassette deck with the cassette compartiment located on the left side of the deck. Tape eject is operated mechanically and the cassette needs to be placed with the side to be played facing forward in the cassette well.

Level meters used on the Tascam 234 cassette deck are analog needle VU reading meters. Full-logic transport controls used on the Tascam 234 let it respond to the slightest finger contact for fast and effortless transport function selection. 9,5 cm/s faster recording/playback speed used in the 234 offers extended frequency response, increased dynamic range and transient response. 234, playback speed may be adjusted with pitch control.

The Dolby-B system reduces tape hiss on tapes recorded on the Tascam 234 by as much as 10 dB at the highest frequencies. Dbx Type II found in the 234 is a simplified version of the Type I noise reduction system. The dbx Type II system was designed to be used with systems with limited bandwidth such as cassette based recorders and also uses a simple 2:1:2 compander to reduce noise.

For undisturbed listening a jack connector for a pair of mono headphones is supplied.
